StationPC NAS for local AI
Updated
Is StationPC good for local AI?
Possibly, for small models. The DA400 adds a dedicated RK1828 AI module that StationPC says runs language models up to 8B parameters, alongside an RK3588 processor and 8GB of memory. It was funded on Kickstarter in October 2026 and is not yet on general sale, so its claims are untested.

What is the DA400?
The DA400 is a four-bay, low-power NAS running StationOS Pro, a Debian-based system with Docker support. Its AI comes from a separate module rather than the main processor, which keeps power use down but limits it to small models with no upgrade path.
A DA400 Air variant drops the AI module. We found no evidence of a DA800 despite occasional mentions.
Should you wait for it?
If you want a ready-made private assistant in a quiet box and only need small models, it is worth watching. Wait for shipping units and independent testing before relying on the 8B and 50 tokens per second claims.
