Zettlab D6 Ultra vs StationPC DA400
Updated
Which should you buy?
On hardware the Zettlab D6 Ultra is far more capable: a Core Ultra 5 processor, upgradeable memory to 96GB and two 10GbE ports, against the DA400's 8GB fixed memory and a small AI module for models up to 8B. Neither ships to the UK yet, so treat both as ones to watch.
What is the difference between the D6 Ultra and the DA400?
Both systems come from crowdfunding and both put local AI at the centre, but they sit in different classes. The D6 Ultra uses an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H with Arc graphics, 32GB of DDR5 expandable to 96GB, six bays, two M.2 slots, two 10GbE ports, two USB4 ports and an external PCIe 4.0 x8 connector. ZettOS includes a local assistant that downloads open models such as Gemma, Phi and Llama, and reviewers have seen it working.
The DA400 is a low-power four-bay box. Its Rockchip RK3588 runs the NAS with 8GB of fixed memory, and a separate RK1828 module with 5GB of its own memory runs language models up to 8B, at up to 50 tokens per second by StationPC's claim. Networking is two 2.5GbE ports and there is no GPU path.
The D6 Ultra can grow into 32B and 70B class models with more memory (Estimated); the DA400 stops at 8B. The DA400's advantage is simplicity and low power draw. As of October 2026 the D6 Ultra was a sold-out pre-order and the DA400 had just closed its Kickstarter, and neither listed UK shipping.
Choose the Zettlab D6 Ultra if
You want a six-bay NAS with a laptop-class AI processor, memory you can upgrade towards 96GB and fast networking, and you are willing to wait for shipping and import it. You plan to run larger local models than an 8B assistant.
Choose the StationPC DA400 if
You want a quiet, low-power box with a ready-made private assistant for small models, four bays for family storage and a Debian-based OS with Docker. You do not need models above 8B and are comfortable backing a crowdfunded product.

Which can run bigger local models?
The Zettlab D6 Ultra reaches 96GB of memory against 8GB on the StationPC DA400. That is the difference between 70B class models at 4-bit with room left for longer context and small models up to around 7B parameters (Estimated). The largest 4-bit model each can hold is roughly 146B and 0B parameters, after leaving 8GB for the operating system.
For GPU acceleration, the Zettlab D6 Ultra offers pcie x8 slot, while the StationPC DA400 has no way to add a graphics card. A discrete card with its own memory is the biggest single speed upgrade for local models, so this matters more than CPU cores for anyone planning to run 14B models or larger.
The Zettlab D6 Ultra has a 11 TOPS NPU; The StationPC DA400 has a 6 TOPS NPU. NAS NPUs help vendor features such as photo recognition and search, but most open-source LLM runtimes do not use them yet.
