How do the N5 Pro and N5 compare?
Minisforum comes from mini PCs, and its NAS range shows it: laptop-class AMD processors in a compact five-bay chassis. The N5 Pro uses the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 with ECC support; the N5 uses a Ryzen 7 255 with no NPU and non-ECC memory. Both take up to 96GB of DDR5 SO-DIMM, both have 10GbE plus 5GbE, two USB4 ports, an OCuLink port and a PCIe x16 slot wired at x4.
Upgradeable memory is the key difference from rivals such as UGREEN's iDX range. You can buy barebone, fit 96GB, and run 70B class models at 4-bit, which no soldered 64GB system can.
What should UK buyers check?
The N5 Pro is sold through Minisforum's UK store, which ships from a Hong Kong warehouse. The N5 was sold out when we checked and has been replaced in the UK by the N5 Air. MinisCloud OS is younger than DSM or QTS, so many owners run TrueNAS or another OS instead.
