ASUSTOR NAS for local AI
Updated
Is ASUSTOR good for local AI?
Partly. ASUSTOR officially lists Ollama with Open WebUI in App Central for its current Flashstor and Lockerstor Gen3 models, which is more than some rivals offer. But the Ryzen Embedded V3C14 they share has four cores and no graphics or NPU, and there is no GPU path, so models run slowly on the CPU.
Which ASUSTOR systems do we track?

How do the ASUSTOR models compare?
The current range shares one platform: the Ryzen Embedded V3C14 with ECC DDR5 up to 64GB, two 10GbE ports and two USB4 ports. The Flashstor 12 Pro Gen2 is all-flash with twelve M.2 slots, the Lockerstor 8 Gen3 has eight bays and four M.2 slots, and the Lockerstor 4 Gen3 has four bays and four M.2 slots, both Lockerstors adding two 5GbE ports.
We moved the Flashstor 12 Pro Gen2 and Lockerstor 8 Gen3 from AI Ready to AI Capable after checking the hardware: without graphics, an NPU or a GPU slot they cannot do more for AI than the four-bay model.
How does ASUSTOR suggest using AI?
ASUSTOR's RAG guidance recommends running inference on a separate GPU machine, with the NAS holding the documents. That setup works for any of these systems: fast, private storage feeding a model that runs elsewhere.
