Can the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus run local AI?
Partly. The UGREEN DXP4800 Plus runs local models on Intel Pentium Gold 8505 alone, and its 64GB ceiling allows 32B class models comfortably, and 70B class models at 4-bit with little headroom (Estimated), but replies will be slow without graphics acceleration.
No graphics card can be fitted, which keeps every model on the CPU.
Local LLM support is documented by the manufacturer.
The DXP4800 Plus is UGREEN's mainstream four-bay NAS and a good storage buy, but treat its AI abilities as a bonus. The Pentium Gold 8505 has five cores and basic UHD graphics, with no NPU. You can run Ollama and Open WebUI in Docker, and UGREEN documents how, but expect small models and slow replies.
Two things make it more interesting than most four-bay rivals. It supports up to 64GB of DDR5, and it ships with both a 10GbE and a 2.5GbE port. That memory ceiling means you can load a 7B or 8B model without running out of room, even if the CPU limits how fast it answers.
There is no PCIe slot, no OCuLink and no Thunderbolt, so there is no route to a GPU later. Buy it for backups, media and photos with UGREEN's AI album, and treat local language models as something to try rather than rely on. If AI is the priority, the iDX6011 is the upgrade that changes the answer.

Out of the box the DXP4800 Plus has 8GB; the official ceiling is 64GB of DDR5 SODIMM. A memory upgrade is the cheapest way to make it more useful for AI.
Working backwards from 64GB: reserve about 8GB for the operating system and storage services, and at roughly 0.6GB per billion parameters at 4-bit, the largest model that fits is around 93B (Estimated).
There is no supported way to add a GPU to the DXP4800 Plus: no PCIe slot and no OCuLink. Inference runs on the CPU, with Intel UHD Graphics (12th Gen) handling media tasks, so keep to small models.
For a personal library, yes. A compact embedding model and a small chat model will run, but the DXP4800 Plus is better as the document store behind a RAG system whose model runs on stronger hardware.
Built-in networking: 10GbE + 2.5GbE. Plenty for a shared knowledge base with several users.

Its strongest AINAS profiles are Home Lab at 49 and Business at 49, which points to home lab owners who want one box for storage, containers, media and a few AI services.
Look elsewhere if you are buyers who expect to add a graphics card later.
