Is QNAP good for local AI?
Yes at the top of the range, and only partly below it. The QAI-h1290FX and TS-h1290FX take full-size workstation GPUs and QNAP documents Ollama, Open WebUI and local RAG on them. The TVS and TS models run the same tools on the CPU, with official GPU support capped at small 4GB cards or none at all.

Which QNAP should you buy for AI?
QNAP has the widest spread of any brand we track. At the top, the QAI-h1290FX is a dedicated AI server: an EPYC CPU, up to 1TB of ECC memory, four PCIe Gen4 slots and GPU bundles with NVIDIA RTX PRO Blackwell cards. The TS-h1290FX is the same chassis sold as storage, ready for a GPU you choose yourself.
Below that, the TVS-h874T and TVS-h674T have strong Intel desktop CPUs and Thunderbolt 4, but QNAP's GPU lists for them stop at a 4GB card, so treat them as fast storage with CPU-based AI. The TS-464 and TS-264 are popular home models limited to 16GB of memory, and the TS-233 is an ARM box for basic storage.
What does QNAP document officially?
QNAP publishes guides for Ollama and Open WebUI in Container Station, an on-premises RAG guide for Qsirch, AI photo recognition in QuMagie and AI features in its surveillance suite. Its compatibility lists for GPUs and accelerators such as Hailo-8 are detailed and model-specific, which makes it easy to check what will actually work.
