Can the TerraMaster F4-424 Pro run local AI?
Only lightly. Expect models up to the 14B class, with 32B class models a tight fit (Estimated) on the TerraMaster F4-424 Pro: Intel Core i3-N305 does the work with up to 32GB of memory, which is fine for experiments rather than a daily assistant.
Without any GPU option, the processor carries the whole inference load.
Local LLM support is documented by the manufacturer.
The F4-424 Pro sits between TerraMaster's entry and Max models, with an Intel Core i3-N305, 32GB of DDR5 already fitted, two 2.5GbE ports and two M.2 slots. The single memory slot means 32GB is also the ceiling, so what you buy is what you keep.
For AI it is AI Capable. TerraMaster's own guide to running local language models with Ollama and Open WebUI in Docker names this model, so it is one of the few entry systems with a manufacturer-documented local LLM route. Eight efficiency cores and basic graphics keep you to small models, and there is no GPU path.
The 32GB fitted from the factory is its real advantage: most rivals at this level ship with 4GB or 8GB and need an upgrade before AI tools are usable. If you want a simple four-bay NAS that can run a small private assistant on day one, it is worth a look. If you need 10GbE, step up to the F4-424 Max.

| Capability | Supported | Evidence | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local LLM | Limited | Vendor confirmed | CPU/iGPU-only inference via Docker; no NPU or GPU expansion. TerraMaster blog names this model for running local LLMs via Ollama/Open WebUI in Docker. |
| Ollama | Yes | Vendor confirmed | Runs as a Docker container via TOS Docker/Container Manager. TerraMaster blog names this model for running local LLMs via Ollama/Open WebUI in Docker. |
| Open WebUI | Yes | Vendor confirmed | Open WebUI container via Docker; same TerraMaster blog source. |
| RAG | Limited | Unverified | Possible through Open WebUI or similar containers; no TerraMaster or community source showing RAG on TOS. |
| AI search | Limited | Vendor confirmed | TOS 7 AI agent (OpenClaw) and AI tagging allow natural-language queries; setup uses an API key from a provider such as OpenAI, so likely cloud LLM. Global search itself is an inverted index, not semantic. |
| GPU expansion | No | Vendor confirmed | Spec page lists no PCIe slot; no USB4, Thunderbolt or OCuLink. |
| Hardware acceleration | Yes | Vendor confirmed | Hardware transcoding engine H.264/H.265/MPEG-4/VC-1 up to 4K60 via Intel iGPU. Video only, no NPU. |
| AI photos | Yes | Vendor confirmed | TOS 7 Photos: AI face recognition and AI scene recognition (80+ categories), admin toggle. |
| AI video | No | Unverified | No AI video feature found in TOS 7 material. |
| Surveillance AI | Yes | Vendor confirmed | TOS 7 Surveillance Manager supports up to 32 ONVIF IP cameras. |
32GB of DDR5-4800 non-ECC SODIMM is all the F4-424 Pro will ever have; it is not user-upgradeable. Every model you run has to fit inside that figure alongside the operating system.
Our estimate for the biggest model that fits in 32GB is about 40B parameters at 4-bit, after setting aside 8GB for the system. Long context windows reduce that figure (Estimated).
A graphics card is not an option on the F4-424 Pro, which has neither a PCIe slot nor OCuLink. Inference runs on the CPU, with Intel UHD Graphics handling media tasks, so keep to small models.
As the storage half of a RAG setup it works well; as the model host it is limited. Small embedding models run fine on the F4-424 Pro, while the answering model needs more compute than it has.
For network access it has 2 x 2.5GbE. Enough for light use; large imports will take a while.
| Configuration | RAM | SSD | Notes |

Best fit: home lab owners who want one box for storage, containers, media and a few AI services. That is where the F4-424 Pro scores highest (Home Lab 37/100), followed by Business (36/100).
Less suited to buyers who expect to add a graphics card later and teams moving large files over the network every day.
