Can the UGREEN DXP6800 Pro run local AI?
The UGREEN DXP6800 Pro can run small local models, with limits. Its Intel Core i5-1235U and 64GB memory ceiling suit 32B class models comfortably, and 70B class models at 4-bit with little headroom (Estimated), so treat it as a storage-first NAS that can host light AI tools.
It also has a GPU path (PCIe x4 slot), so a graphics card can be added later for much faster inference.
Local LLM support is documented by the manufacturer.
The DXP6800 Pro is essentially the DXP8800 Plus with six bays instead of eight. It uses the same Core i5-1235U, the same DDR5 memory ceiling of 64GB, the same pair of 10GbE ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and an internal PCIe x4 slot.
For local AI that means the same honest verdict: capable of running small and mid-sized models through Ollama in Docker, but without an NPU, without UGREEN's iDX-only assistant and without room for a full-size GPU. Upgrade to 32GB or 64GB before you try anything larger than a 3B model; the 8GB it ships with is for storage duties.
Choose it over the DXP8800 Plus if six bays cover your storage needs and you would rather keep the smaller footprint. Choose the iDX6011 instead if local AI is the main reason you are buying, because the newer platform, the NPU and the bundled assistant make a real difference. For a home lab that mixes media, backups and a few containers, this is a balanced box.

The DXP6800 Pro ships with 8GB of DDR5 SODIMM and supports up to 64GB. Upgrading to the maximum lifts the model ceiling from small models up to around 7B parameters to 32B class models comfortably, and 70B class models at 4-bit with little headroom (both Estimated).
As a rule of thumb, a 4-bit model needs about 0.6GB per billion parameters plus room for context. After leaving around 8GB for the NAS operating system, 64GB leaves space for a model of roughly 93B parameters at most (Estimated).
Only a small one. The 1x PCIe x4 (internal) in the DXP6800 Pro is sized for network and storage cards; low-profile GPUs are the limit.
With limits. The DXP6800 Pro can host a small RAG stack such as AnythingLLM or Open WebUI with a compact embedding model, but memory and compute restrict how large the answering model can be. It suits a personal document library more than a team knowledge base.
Networking is 2 x 10GbE. That is ample for indexing large libraries and for several people querying at once.
