Can the UGREEN DXP8800 Plus run local AI?
Partly. The UGREEN DXP8800 Plus runs local models on Intel Core i5-1235U alone, and its 64GB ceiling allows 32B class models comfortably, and 70B class models at 4-bit with little headroom (Estimated), but replies will be slow without graphics acceleration.
A graphics card can be added through its PCIe x4 slot, which is the biggest single speed upgrade for local models.
Local LLM support is documented by the manufacturer.
The DXP8800 Plus is a strong eight-bay storage server that can run local AI tools, but it is not an AI NAS in the way the iDX series is. Its Core i5-1235U has 10 cores and Iris Xe graphics with no NPU, and UGREEN's Uliya assistant does not run on DXP models. Local models run through Ollama in Docker, which UGREEN documents in its own help centre, on the CPU.
Where it earns the AI Ready label is headroom. Memory goes from 8GB to 64GB of DDR5, there are two 10GbE ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and the half-height PCIe Gen4 x4 slot can take a low-profile card. That slot only takes low-profile cards, so think of it as an upgrade path for networking or storage rather than inference.
Buy it if you need eight bays and fast networking first, and want to experiment with a private chat assistant or RAG over your documents second. Budget for a memory upgrade on day one: 8GB is not enough for anything beyond tiny models.

| AI video | Limited | Vendor confirmed | Photos AI via Model Manager on DXP; advanced video AI features are iDX focused. |
| Surveillance AI | Yes | Vendor confirmed | Surveillance Center supports DXP series; local AI detection listed for iDX. |
Out of the box the DXP8800 Plus has 8GB; the official ceiling is 64GB of DDR5 SODIMM. A memory upgrade is the cheapest way to make it more useful for AI.
Working backwards from 64GB: reserve about 8GB for the operating system and storage services, and at roughly 0.6GB per billion parameters at 4-bit, the largest model that fits is around 93B (Estimated).
Partly. The DXP8800 Plus has a 1x PCIe Gen4 x4 (half-height), which suits low-profile cards and network or storage upgrades. Only small single-slot GPUs fit, so expect modest gains.
For a personal library, yes. A compact embedding model and a small chat model will run, but the DXP8800 Plus is better as the document store behind a RAG system whose model runs on stronger hardware.
Built-in networking: 2 x 10GbE. Plenty for a shared knowledge base with several users.
| Configuration | RAM | SSD | Notes |

| 8GB | 8GB | None | Diskless with 8GB DDR5 SODIMM, 128GB system SSD. UK also sells a bundle with M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure. |
