1. How much memory, and can you add more?
Memory sets the largest model you can run: 16GB for 8B models, 32GB for 14B, 64GB for 32B and 96GB for 70B at 4-bit (Estimated). Soldered memory, as on UGREEN's iDX range, cannot be upgraded; SO-DIMM slots can. Buy for the models you will want in two years.
2. Is there a GPU path?
A PCIe slot or OCuLink port is the difference between a NAS that runs models slowly and one that can run them quickly later. Full-size slots take large cards; x8 slots take most; OCuLink connects an external dock; x4 slots only take small cards.
3. Processor, graphics and NPU
A modern Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI processor with strong integrated graphics runs small models well without a GPU. An NPU speeds up photo and search features, not Ollama.
4. Storage and networking
Count bays for your storage needs over several years, plus M.2 slots for apps and indexes. 2.5GbE suits a household; 10GbE suits heavy file work and teams.
5. Software, warranty and UK availability
Check the vendor's documentation for Ollama, Open WebUI and Docker. Built-in assistants and AI search reduce setup. Warranties range from two years to five. UK availability matters for returns and support: some AI NAS systems are sold only from US or Asian stores, and crowdfunded models may not ship to the UK at all.
Where should you buy in the UK?
Amazon UK lists many AI NAS systems, often sold by the manufacturer's own UK store or by Amazon. Manufacturer web stores such as UGREEN's and QNAP's UK stores sell models that are not on Amazon. Check who the seller is, whether the unit has a UK plug, and that the warranty is honoured in the UK. Every price on this site shows its retailer and the time it was verified.
Which systems meet these checks?
The table on this page lists the highest-scoring AI NAS systems from our live records with their current UK prices. Use the Finder to filter by your own budget, memory and bays, or the compare tool to set two systems side by side.
Common questions
Should I wait for new models?
New AI NAS systems appear often. If a current system meets your memory and GPU needs, buying now is reasonable; announced systems sometimes ship late.
Barebone or with memory?
Barebone systems let you choose memory, often for less. Bundles save time and cover the memory under the NAS warranty.
Should I buy a diskless NAS?
Usually, yes. Diskless systems let you choose drives that suit your capacity and budget, and the price comparison is clearer. Add the cost of drives and any extra memory when comparing systems.
Where should I buy an AI NAS in the UK?
From a seller that offers UK plugs, UK warranty support and easy returns. Our price tables show the current Amazon UK seller and when each price was checked, so you can see who you are buying from.
How long is the warranty?
Most makers offer two to five years, depending on brand and model. Each system page lists the warranty term where the manufacturer states one.
